All this means is that I am NOT perfect and I give what I give you rather than worry about what I feel people's high expectations are of me. I will go as far as God will let me in life with this passion but my mental health is priority number one over a life of "business" therefore I am NOT a professional in that sense. Poetry is my therapy I just share it with the world.
I am a Mother, Wife, Poet, Activist, Online Open Mic Host, FORMER police officer and Army veteran. I live in Dallas TX and I do love to travel. I speak out about Mental Health and Social Injustice because of my experiences, past and present. I highly believe poetry is therapy and should have no filters that's why my poetry is raw truth. I am NOT a professional. I just wanted to create a platform for anyone to be heard without "professional politics" interfering.
Online Open Mic
I'm affiliated with Dallas Poetry Commission and am in charge of the online open mics. A few of the members host in person at local venues. Struggling with mental health and just reciting my poetry on stage, I came up with the idea of getting together an online open mic. I had an idea of "safe space hosting" not just performing. So far it has helped me more with my social anxiety and I'm not only helping myself but I'm helping others who aren't ready to venture out onto the stage yet but are becoming more comfortable speaking and expressing themselves raw and unfiltered. My virtual stage is for everyone, first time or experienced.
